Hotel St. Francis
Santa Fe, NM
The Hotel St. Francis traces its history to the Palace Hotel, known as the De Vargas for its last dozen years. This hotel was built in the 1880's. In January 1922, in what was the biggest fire in Santa Fe in 300 years, the De Vargas burned completely to the ground leaving only the brick chimney to mark the location.
The new De Vargas Hotel opened its doors in 1924. It was a first class hotel with a spacious lobby, a wonderful dining room and a bar. In 1986 the hotel was remodeled, the interior was refurbished, and it reopened as the Hotel St. Francis.
There are 83 comfortable guest rooms and suites in the Hotel St. Francis. Each room and suite is unique with high ceilings and original windows - many with mountain views - and furnished with brass or iron beds and period pieces in cherry and oak. Baths feature original hexagonal tile and porcelain or marble pedestal sinks. A refrigerator, personal safe, remote-control TV and individually controlled thermostat are also included.
Each guest room has a refrigerator and a personal safe, color Cable TV with remote control and complimentary Showtime and an individually controlled thermostat. Complimentary parking is available. The hotel is handicap accessible. Room service and laundry service is available.
Hotel St. Francis has been selected among the 50 Best Hotels in the World by Hemisphere Magazine.
